Habitat Fundraiser: The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce recently announced its plans for Business Build 2012, which will fund and build a house for a family selected by Our Towns Habitat For Humanity.

Donors can send a check made out to Our Towns Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1088, Davidson, NC 28036, c/o Tammy Cox.

Write "Business Build 2012" in the memo portion of the check and provide your contact information and the name of their donating organization.

Davidson

Civics 101: Residents are encouraged to apply for 2012's upcoming Civics 101. Classes begin in February.

The free program is open to Davidson residents who are 18 and older.

Classes will begin Feb. 2 and continue for nine weeks, excluding Feb. 23, at town hall.

Participants can sign up for a day session from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Applications are available online at ci.davidson.nc.us or at Town Hall, 216 South Main St.

Freelance opportunities: Lake Norman News is looking for freelancers to write community news stories about Lake Norman people and events. Applicants must have writing experience and knowledge of Associated Press style.

Mooresville

Wrapping party: The Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce will host a gift wrapping party 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 12 for the "Be a Santa to a Senior" program. Shoppers are invited to choose an ornament from the tree at the chamber office, shop for the gifts listed and return gifts to the chamber before Dec. 12. Then on Dec. 12 the gifts will be wrapped for distribution to senior adults in need. www.beasantatoasenior.com.

Another wrapping party: In addition, Churchill Senior Living, 140 Carriage Club Drive, Mooresville, will host a communitywide wrapping party for the "Be a Santa To a Senior" program 2-8 p.m. Dec. 9. Christmas cookies and beverages will be provided. Members of New Grace of Northview Free Will Baptist will sing carols. Wrapping supplies are provided by Home Instead Senior Care, the gift program sponsor. To volunteer call Home Instead at 704-924-9909.

Shop for art gifts: The MAGical Gift Shop and the Mooresville Artist Guild's Holiday Members Show will be open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays until Dec. 22 as well as selected Friday evenings. Shoppers can find affordable, unique gifts handcrafted by local artists at the Depot Gallery, at Main and Center in downtown Mooresville. 704-663-6661.

Red Line presentation: The Lake Norman Transportation Commission will host a presentation by the N.C. Department of Transportation on a proposal to build the "Red Line" commuter rail route to the Lake Norman area. The meeting will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in Mooresville.
