Bandys High

South Iredell High

Literary magazine: Submissions accepted through Dec. 23 for the school's new literary magazine. Submissions can include short stories, poetry, book reviews, movie reviews, music review, opinion-based articles and artwork/photography (black and white). Print entries cannot be more than 650 words. Artwork/photography must be scanned and sent as a JPEG.

Brawley Middle

Yearbook photos: The school's yearbook staff is looking for photos of activities involving BMS students outside of school for use in the 2011-12 yearbook. For information, email

Lakeshore Middle

Spelling bee: 8:30 a.m. Jan. 5, at the school. School-wide competition will determine representatives to the county spelling bee.

Pretzel day: Jan. 13 at the school.

Coddle Creek Elementary

Winter Wonderland Dance: 7-9 p.m. Jan. 6. The third-annual "best guy" - fathers, uncles or grandfathers - and daughters dance will be in the school's gymnasium. Tickets $15 per couple, $5 for each additional student in advance; $20 per couple and $10 each additional student at the door. Advance payment forms must be turned in by Dec. 21.

Plastic bag collection: The school is participating in a program with Harris Teeter to collect the most plastic bags. The program will continue through mid-April. The school that collects the most bags will receive $1,000; second will get $500; and the third- and fourth-place schools get $250 each.

Lake Norman Elementary

Math Expo/Science Fair Extravaganza: Jan. 4, at the school. Winners in the science fair advance to Iredell-Statesville Schools district science fair Jan. 19, while winners in the local math expo will compete in the regional math expo.

Staff soup day: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 13. The school's Parent Teacher Organization will serve soup and sandwiches to teachers and staff.

Shepherd Elementary

Give Back Day: All day Dec. 22 and Dec. 29 at Sports Page Food and Spirits, 128-D Argus Lane, Mooresville.
