Women paint women: In January, the Mooresville Artist Guild will feature another installment of its "Women Paint Women" series. The theme of this show is "More Than Just a Pretty Face."

Also featured will be photography by Michael Tipton. He specializes in nature photography, including animals, plants, cloud formations and the unexpected beauty he finds in them.

The work will be on display throughout January. Also, the monthly Art Walk will be Jan. 14, with a public meet-the-artists reception 6-8 p.m. Jan. 14.

Christmas stockings for babies: Kerry Hare, 8, who was born on Christmas Day, donated five special Christmas stocking she made expressly for the babies delivered on or around Christmas Day at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Marie Marks, director of women's and maternity services at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, accepted the stockings.

Kerry details more about why she began the project on her blog at kerry kristmas .blogspot .com . Assisted by her mother, Joy, Kerry hopes to continue and expand upon her project for many years to come, she said.

Troutman

Resource officer: The Troutman Police Department has assigned Officer Elliot Turner as the new school resource officer for Troutman Middle School. Turner previously worked for the Statesville Police Department.
