Towns hold special needs program registration

The Cornelius PARC and Huntersville Parks and Recreation special needs program is holding registration for its special needs basketball league until Feb. 2.

Participants will have an individual volunteer to engage them in basketball-related activities to learn skills. Coaches will encourage participants to hone their dribbling, passing and shooting skills while learning the rules of the game and interacting with peers.

Registration fees are $35 for residents and $40 for nonresidents. The Saturday program goes from Feb. 4 until March 10.

For more information on this and other programs, visit www.corneliuspr.org or contact Trina Roeder, Special Needs Programs Coordinator, at 704-892-6031 ext. 162 or troeder@cornelius.org.

Blue Devils finished as runners-up

Mooresville's boys' basketball team had a good outing at Charlotte's Hardwood Classic, reaching the tournament finals before losing 77-48 to undefeated Northside Christian.

The Blue Devils defeated Ardrey Kell and Davidson Day to reach the finals.

UNC Charlotte-bound guard Shawn Lester made the all-tournament squad. He wrapped up his performance by scoring 20 points and grabbing nine rebounds playing on a sore ankle in the championship game.

Mooresville (5-4 heading into Tuesday's game against Hopewell) will travel to Vance today.
