Police Academy: The Police Department's Citizens Police Academy is a 10-week program designed to provide a look at the operations of the department. 6-9 p.m. beginning March 6. Details: Capt. Adrian Burks, 704-658-9007.

Countywide

Student volunteers sought: The Lake Norman Regional Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary is accepting student applications to participate in the summer Junior Volunteer Program at the hospital. Applications are available online on Lake Norman Regional Medical Center's website under the careers tab, through local school guidance departments and at the visitor's desk at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center and online located at 171 Fairview Road, Mooresville. The program is open to rising high school juniors and seniors.

Catawba County

Budget: For the 23rd straight year, Catawba County's Budget Office has been recognized by its peers for producing a budget document that is easy to read and understand. The County Budget Office has won the 2011 Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. This award recognized the County's fiscal year 2011-2012 budget.
