Tree City USA: Owner Jim Smith of Street Customs & Restoration of Mooresville led a team from his shop to Hollywood in October to compete on the Speed Channel's "Car Warriors" show, which challenges teams to build a car in 48 hours. A team built a car dedicated to childhood cancer awareness, as Smith's son, Bryson, 4, was diagnosed with leukemia in June 2011. The Speed Channel will feature their effort at 9 p.m. March 7.

Youth art exhibit: The Mooresville Artist Guild's seventh annual Youth Exhibit is on display throughout March. The official opening will be 6-9 p.m. March 9. Hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays.

Leadership workshop: A free leadership workshop series at Mountain State University Mooresville will continue March 21 a discussion of "Transcendent Leadership." It will meet 8:30-10 a.m. All sessions are at MSU Mooresville, Catalina Bay, 517 Alcove Road. Sherrills Ford

Tigers on the Run: 5K walk and run starts at 9 a.m. March 24 at the school, 8103 Sherrills Ford Road. Proceeds will benefit school programs.

The race is open to all ages.
