Tournaments are held almost every week of the year, and many are open to the public or have a small membership fee to enter the event. And if you are not a bass angler, there are catfish and crappie tournaments.
Lake Norman has developed into a destination lake for bass-fishing tournaments, and the lake is full of largemouth and spotted bass.
Professional bass anglers from all over the country will be here to compete in the Bass Pro Bassmasters Southern Open March 24- 26. Blythe Landing is a nationally recognized tournament site in Cornelius and has been past host to BASS, FLW, ABA tournaments, the Ryan Newman Charity Fishing Tournament and many others. Midway Marina, Queens Landing and county boat landings are also tournament sites.

2012 Norman Spring Team Bass Championship: 7 a.m. -3 p.m. March 11, 17, 24, 25 at Midway Marina. Open to the public. This tournament trail pays up to 150 percent of entry fees in prizes. Sponsored by Carolina Coach and Marine. Mike Chronister at 704-634-1157 or email@example.com.
Bass Pro Bassmasters Southern Open: March 24-26, Blythe Landing. Open to BASS members. This will be the first time since 2006 that a national BASS event has been held on Lake Norman. The event will feature 400 of the top professional anglers from around the world. Weigh-ins will be held lakeside on the first two days, and the final day weigh-in will be held at Bass Pro Shop in Concord. Co-anglers will compete against each other from the back of pros' boats. First prize in the co-angler division is a Triton/Mercury boat package valued at $35,000.
The daily limit for the pros is five fish, 14 inches minimum. The co-angler is three fish 14 inches each.

Oakley/Bass Pro/Jamie McMurray Carolina Big Bass Tournament: April 14-15, Queens Landing. Open to the public.
