Activate Community Through Theatre (ACT) opens its fifth season with auditions and classes for youth and seniors.
Youth are invited to audition for “Peter Pan and Wendy,” an audience participation play; “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever;” and “A Taste of Shakespeare,” abridged versions of “Julius Caesar” and “As You Like It.”
Youth are asked to bring a picture and resume or a snapshot and summary of their experience. Youth aged 7-19 must prepare a comic monologue of one minute or less for “Peter Pan and Wendy” and/or for “The Best Christmas Ever.”
Youth aged 11-19 must prepare a one minute monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays for “A Taste of Shakespeare’s ‘Julius Caesar’ and ‘As You Like It.’”
A participation fee of $135 for each production includes production costs. Youth may audition for any or all of the productions. Auditions are 10 .am.-1 p.m. Aug. 13 and 20 at the Warehouse for the Performing Arts in Cornelius.
Performance of ‘A Taste of Shakespeare’s ‘Julius Caesar’ and ‘As You Like It’” will be held Oct. 14-16; “Peter Pan and Wendy” on Nov. 5 and 12; and “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” on Dec. 9-11 and 16-18.
Short Attention Span Theatre is ACT’s offering of a class for those 55 years old and older. The 12-week total theater experience starts Sept. 1 and ends with a performance of selected 10-minute plays for the community on Nov. 19. No experience or memorization is necessary. The $225 fee includes production costs. A payment plan is available and participants meet in the afternoon at the Warehouse for the Performing Arts in Cornelius.
