Worship services: Four ARP churches invite you to attend a series of special worship services Sept. 24-28. The Rev. Andy Ward will preach at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at Huntersville ARP, 200 N. Bethel Presbyterian, Cornelius

Annual barbecue: Community invited. Barbecue, silent auction, bake sale and handmade quilt sale. Drive through, eat in, or carry out. $9 for a barbecue plate or three sandwiches. Davidson College Presbyterian

Study series: The church’s Earth Care Taskforce presents a month-long series on stewardship of the Earth and sustainability practices. The topic for Sept. 28 is “The Land Conservancy Program in the Davidson Area.” 9:45 a.m. Sundays.

Animal blessing service: Animals welcome on leashes or in cages. Animals will receive blessings as their human companions vow to care for them with compassion and joy. Lake Forest Church, Huntersville

Prayer run: Join friends in worldwide prayer for orphans in Bolivia and Honduras, then run or walk a 5K to benefit the Children’s Impact Network. Participants will receive a prayer card with the photo, name and prayer request of a child at one of our orphanages. The children will pray and walk a 5K the same morning. Optional chip-timed race provided by Davidson Timing. Male and female first- and second-place winners will receive a $125 gift certificate to Charlotte Running Co. or Brushy Mountain Outdoors. Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Lake Norman

Service: Dr. Karin Peterson will present “Feminism is for Everybody.” Nursery available. Children in grades K-5 go to spiritual exploration following the children’s story during the service. 11 a.m. Sept. 28. Services are held at the Woodlawn School, 135 Woodlawn School Loop, Mooresville.

Huntersville United Methodist

Fall community extravaganza: Fourteenth annual event, featuring live music, local vendors, barbecue, car show, silent and live auctions, a bake sale and children’s activities. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 25.

Keenagers: Adults age 50 and up invited. Monthly meetings alternate among potluck lunches at the church, meals at area restaurants and field trips to nearby places of interest. The church is at 14005 Stumptown Road, Huntersville.

Mt. Zion United Methodist, Cornelius

Infant language classes: Babygarten is a class designed by two librarians to help young children gain the exposure to language needed to become competent readers. Infants ages 0-18 months and their caregivers will share nursery rhymes, songs, and books; make fun projects; and enjoy a free-play period during each class. Older children will be accepted with instructor’s permission. No registration or cost. All classes meet at 10 a.m. Three sections are available: Mondays, Sept. 29-Oct. 27; Wednesdays, Sept. 24-Oct. 22, and Saturdays, Sept. 27-Oct. 25.

New Beginnings Moravian, Huntersville

Fundraiser: Car show “Motors-4-Moore” will benefit the rebuilding effort in Moore, Okla., which suffered devastating loss from tornadoes in 2013. Registration is $10 in advance and $20 on the day of the event.
