Used coat and jeans drive: Gently used coats and jeans of all sizes are being collected until winter break to be donated to the Mooresville Christian Mission. A collection bin has been set up in the front office. Details:

Mooresville Intermediate School

Girls on the Run Book Drive: The Mooresville Intermediate School Girls on the Run group is hoping to donate one new or gently used book for every person at the school to the Mooresville Christian Mission. The goal is to collect 750 books that are appropriate for students in kindergarten through grade six. The books will be given to the mission along with food baskets for the holidays. Donations of books are being accepted through Dec. 5 in the green bins in the hallways and next to the library in the main hall.

Hygiene items drive: Personal care items are being collected for students in need through February. Featured items for the coming months are as follows: December – youth-sized socks for girls and boys; January – large-size toothpaste and toothbrushes; February – laundry detergent and bars of soap. Drop off times and locations are: 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Fridays, Mooresville Library, 304 S. Main St., Mooresville, and 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Food for Days, 224 Rolling Hill Road, Suite 1B, Mooresville.

Iredell-Statesville Schools

Holiday artwork: Iredell-Statesville Schools is conducting a contest to select student artwork for this year’s Iredell-Statesville Schools holiday card. Four winners will be chosen to have their artwork used as the cover of the district card. Winners will receive prizes and will be recognized during the January board of education meeting. Artwork must be full-color, flat and submitted on one 8.5-inch by 11-inch piece of white paper. Deadline for receipt of entries is 5 p.m. Dec. 9. Entries can be mailed or submitted in person to the Iredell-Statesville Schools office at 549 N. Race St., Statesville; scanned and submitted via email as a high-resolution jpg file to; or sent via school courier. Brawley Middle

Band-A-Thon: Brawley Middle School recently held its inaugural Band-A-Thon event with sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade band students performing a variety of pieces from the “William Tell Overture” to “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The effort raised more than $6,000 to support the school’s music programming.
