Husband, wife found dead in Rowan home

Deputies are investigating what they're calling a "murder/suicide" after finding a husband and wife dead, both with a gunshot wound to the head, inside their Rowan County home on Sunday afternoon.

Deputies responded to a home in the 500 block of Eudy Road in China Grove shortly after 2 p.m. where they found the bodies of Steven and Kimberly Allen. Family members previously called police and said they were unable to get in touch with the couple through phone calls and knocking repeatedly on their door.

The family says the last time they spoke to the Allen's was on February 11. After numerous attempts to contact the Allens, family members removed the back door to their home and told police that's where they found the two, dead. Officials say the husband and wife were found in the master bedroom of the home.

Detectives determined through evidence at the scene, that Steven killed his wife Kimberly before turning the gun on himself. Family members said that Steven had been undergoing treatment for some medical issues and was undergoing testing by a doctor. Officials say they were also provided information that Steven had recently been depressed over his medical condition.

No calls of domestic violence or disturbances were shown from the home.

Deputies say they are continuing to investigate.
