Charlotte will become a property space in the MONOPOLY HERE & NOW game, Mr. Monopoly and Hasbro Inc., announced on Thursday following a public vote.

The property spaces and new game were purposely unveiled on March 19, World Monopoly Day and Monopoly's birthday.

Voting for MONOPOLY HERE & NOW, powered by BuzzFeed, took place between Feb. 13 and March 4 of this year, an ad company for Hasbro said in a press release.

Fans from around the world were asked to vote for their favorite cities.

The 22 cities that received the most votes would be featured as property spaces on the new game. Carolina cities Asheville, N.C., and Charleston, S.C., also secured spots on the board.

The U.S. edition game is set to launch in fall of 2015. A world edition will feature 22 cities from around the world.

Hasbro congratulated Charlotte on "becoming part of the newest Monopoly game!"
