Woman's car stolen at Charlotte ATM; suspect charged

Police are searching for a vehicle they say was stolen from a woman at an east Charlotte ATM on Friday morning. Andre Lamar Hampton, 21, who police say is connected to the case, was identified and charged on an outstanding warrant.

Around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, a man got into a woman's car and drove off while she was using the ATM in the 5700 block of N. Sharon Amity Road, according to officials. The woman told police she had left the key in the ignition and the car running.

The man who got into her vehicle motioned for another man, later identified as Hampton, to get into the car, but he didn't, police say. While the woman was telling police what happened, she noticed Hampton walking across the street.

She pointed him out and once identified, he was arrested on an outstanding warrant for robbery. He was taken in to be interviewed by detectives and charged with felony conspiracy. He was also served the warrant for common law robbery.

Hampton was taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

The stolen vehicle has not been located. It is described as a green 1999 Ford Crown Victoria with NC license plate CFV9060.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
