A McDowell County man has been charged with child abuse after his three children were found living in poor conditions after their mother appeared to die of an overdose.
According to investigators, deputies were called out to a cardiac arrest along Caraway Drive Friday morning and found the body of 28-year-old Megan Elaine Pinkerton.
Pinkerton's husband, Danny Pinkerton was in the home with the couple's three children, 2-year-old twins (a boy and a girl) and a 3-year-old girl.
Investigators say there were used, unused and uncapped syringes containing controlled substances within reaching distance of the children.
The children were going unclothed and unbathed and were sleeping in their own urine and feces, investigators said.
Danny Pinkerton was charged with three misdemeanor counts each of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and child abuse.
Megan Pinkerton appeared to die of an overdose, investigators said, but an autopsy was performed Monday to determine the official cause.
