A Marion man was charged after deputies say he broke into a home early Sunday morning and set it on fire, killing the homeowners’ dog.

Timothy Shane Gainey, 23, is charged with one felony count each of arson, breaking and entering, larceny and possession of marijuana.

Deputies responded to a house fire on Workman Drive where the owners of the home told investigators that someone broke in, stole three guns and an iPad, and set their kitchen on fire.

The results of the investigation showed that the fire was intentionally set, officials say, and one of the homeowners knew Gainey from work.

When deputies attempted to arrest Gainey, he ran off. He was found and arrested a short time later.

All of the stolen property was recovered.
