Police investigate reported hit-and-run near uptown Charlotte

A man was taken to the hospital following a reported hit and run near uptown Charlotte early Friday.

The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Friday on a ramp at Independence Boulevard near Charlottetown Avenue. Police were called after a passerby spotted a man lying in the middle of the road.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Officials closed the I-277 ramp for nearly two hours while they investigated the scene.

The case is being investigated as a hit-and-run investigation, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Police say they are reviewing NCDOT cameras to try and find a possible driver in the case.
