Person struck, killed by train in uptown Charlotte

One person was struck and killed by a train in uptown Charlotte Friday, according to officials.

The incident happened before 5 p.m. near the intersection of North Smith Street and West 9th Street.

Medic confirmed the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. That person's name has not been released.

Police have not said how the hit may have happened but officers at the scene put tape up around the area.

The train was still at the scene.

Police, fire and Medic all responded. Police said the Major Crash Unit is handling the investigation.
