Dog dies after being dragged by vehicle in Charlotte, driver cited

A dog has died after police in Charlotte say it was dragged behind a vehicle Thursday morning in north Charlotte. The driver was later cited for animal cruelty.

According to police, officers were called to the 8200-block of Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road around 10:30 a.m. to a 911 call for a dog that was being dragged behind a vehicle.

Officers were able to stop the driver, later identified as a 24-year-old woman.

According to the driver and witnesses, the woman had just left her home when the dog chain got caught on the back of the vehicle. The dog was then dragged down the road. It died at the scene from its injuries.

The driver was issued a citation for misdemeanor Animal Cruelty.
