Highway patrol says some kind of medical condition was a factor in an accident on I-485 involving a wrong-way driver.

The driver of a red car was reportedly driving south on northbound lanes of I-485 near the Harrisburg Road exit when it hit a white vehicle head on Sunday morning.

Two patients were taken by ambulance to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries and another person was airlifted to the hospital, according to Medic.

One of those patients was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

According to troopers, the wrong-way driver was the one that died.
