Two men are recovering in the hospital after police say they were shot in a fight over beer.
Salisbury police officers responded to a call about a shooting Friday at 11:02 p.m. at a home on North Shaver Street in the city.
The two men, later identified as 55-year-old Edward Sifford and 54-year-old Matthew Dwyer, were sitting on the front porch of a vacant home when a man and woman came by, according to police. That’s when the couple reportedly tried to steal their beer.
According to reports, Sifford and the man got into a fight, and when Dwyer tried to intervene, the woman pulled out a gun and began shooting at them.
Sifford was found with gunshot wounds on the porch, and officers said Dwyer was found around the corner on Cemetery Street.
Officers said the victims were each hit more than once and taken to North Carolina Baptist hospital in Winston-Salem. The shooting is under investigation.
