A man accused of assaulting his girlfriend and setting his home on fire in an attempt to kill himself, the woman and her 2-year-old son appeared in court Thursday.
Arturo Bizarro, 40, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree arson.
Just after 1 a.m. Tuesday officers responded to a home on Anderson Street after reports of an explosion. According to the official report, police quickly determined Bizarro had “intentionally set his house on fire and attempted to kill himself, the victim” and her son.
The victim, Bizarro’s 34-year-old girlfriend, told officers that Bizarro had strangled her until she passed out. While she was unconscious, the report states, he struck her multiple times in the face.
Investigators say the entire incident took place in front of the woman’s 2-year-old son.
Bizarro then allegedly assaulted a Charlotte police officer while they were investigating.
In court on Thursday, Bizarro was given a secured bond of over $400,000 dollars. Other conditions included electronic monitoring and having no contact with the prosecuting witness.
He is due back in court on November 16 for a bond hearing.
