Providence Day runner Anna Cockrell finished second in the championship 60-meter hurdles at the New Balance Nationals Indoor on March 14 in New York City.
Cockrell, a junior, finished with a time of 8.21 seconds, the fastest time in North Carolina girls’ high school history, according to statistics at NCRunners.
It was also the fifth-fastest time in U.S. girls’ high school history, according to Providence Day coach Carol Lawrence.

Cockrell finished second to New Jersey sophomore Sydney McLaughlin, whose time of 8.17 seconds broke the sophomore national record.
