Walk to End Lupus

Fundraising success: The 14th annual “Walk to End Lupus Now: Charlotte” brought together more than 2,500 people who took steps against lupus May 16 at Central Piedmont Community College where the walk began. Charlotte Chorale

Fundraising concert: The local nonprofit Charlotte Chorale will hold its next concert, “Keeping the Faith: A Musical Journey Through the Human Experience,” 7:30 p.m. June 6 at St. John’s Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane. Friends of York County Animal Shelter

Volunteers needed: The Friends of York County Animal Shelter need more volunteers to help work with dogs and cats in the facility. Volunteers may help in exercising, socializing, training, providing adoption information, publicity and marketing, public education, or other duties. Free T-shirts in June: All blood donors who give with the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas during the month of June will receive a special summer-inspired free T-shirt as a thank-you for donating. With students out of school and many donors traveling, donations always decrease during the summer months, but the need never goes away. Cell Phones for Soldiers

Phone Drive: Mark Antonich of Ameriprise Financial is collecting gently-used cellphones during National Military Appreciation Month (May). These phones will be donated to the nonprofit Cell Phones for Soldiers, which will use the proceeds from the recycled phones to purchase prepaid calling cards for our military personnel. Open Arms Community Outreach

Yard sale: Open Arms Community Outreach Center will be having a yard sale 8 a.m.-noon June 6 at 2613 Hayes Road, Monroe. Proceeds from the sale will be used to continue the organization’s fight against hunger. Sale is rain or shine.

Common Cupboard

Golf Classic: The nonprofit Common Heart will host its fifth annual Common Cupboard Golf Classic 10 a.m. June 8 at Firethorne Country Club, 1108 Firethorne Club Drive, Waxhaw. There will be prizes, a silent auction, lunch and more. Proceeds will benefit Common Cupboard which helps feed local impoverished families in need.
