There’s a vacant lot on Matthews Station Street and town officials want it developed.
The Town has issued a Request for Proposal seeking qualified development firms that would like to develop the .40 acre mixed use parcel.
“This is the final development pad on the street and we’re excited about it,” said Matthews Senior Planner Jay Camp.
“We’re hoping to finish the project out. Based on our code, the ground floor will be retail or restaurant with office or residential upstairs.”

The 145x70-foot site was created about 15 years ago as part of a major downtown redevelopment project that included the new town hall/library building, green space, parking, public streets, and four new general commercial buildings.
The site’s development will be accomplished through a public-private partnership with the town (NC GS 160A-458.3). Commissioners will select the developer and will approve the architecture and site plans before construction begins.
Interested parties can view the entire RFP on the town’s website. Proposals should be submitted by 5 p.m., Oct. 26, to Jay Camp, Town of Matthews Planning and Development Department, 232 Matthews Stations Street, Matthews, 28105.
