Providence High

“Newsweek” ranking: “Newsweek” ranked Providence High School the highest-ranking school in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and No. 310 in the country. The Newsweek High School assessments are based on data to determine which schools do the best job to prepare students for college.

Curriculum Night: The event will be held Sept. 24.

Omni Montessori School

School appointment: Omni Montessori has hired Charlane Baccus as the new head of school. Baccus co-founded the Clariden School in Texas and the Green Tree Montessori School. She received her master’s degree at Endicott College.

Charlotte Latin

Faculty chair appointment: Richard Fletcher has been named the school’s Alumni Association distinguished faculty chair. The appointment recognizes the teacher who most exemplifies leadership, instruction and mentorship for the Charlotte Latin community. Fletcher serves the school as chairman of the Visual Arts Department and head varsity wrestling coach.

Charlotte Christian

AP Scholars: Charlotte Christian School was recently notified that 63 upper-school students earned Advanced Placement Scholar Awards for their performances on the 2015 AP exams. The College Board’s AP program provides opportunities for high school students to take college-level courses and earn college credit pending successful performance on the AP exams. Colter Corish and Jack Wagner received the National AP Scholar Award.

Country Day

AP Scholars: Seventy-four students qualified for Advanced Placement Scholar Awards for their performance on the 2015 AP exams. Of the 74 students, the following six students received the National AP Scholar Award: Manu Amin, Irene Bao, Nathan Brenner, Evan Cater, Henry Jones and Taylor Portland.

Ashley Park Pre-K-8

Principal appointment: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education has approved the appointment of Meaghan Loftus as principal at Ashley Park Pre-K-8 School. Loftus has worked as assistant principal at Ashley Park since 2013 and holds degrees from Lafayette College and Winthrop University.

Collinswood Language Academy

Meet the Teacher: The event will be held Sept. 3.

Principal appointment: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education has approved the appointment of Jennifer Pearsall as principal at Collinswood Language Academy. Pearsall has worked as an executive director of CMS English Language Learner Services since 2014 and holds degrees from Wofford College and UNC-Chapel Hill.

Curriculum Night: The back-to-school event will be held Sept. 24 from 6:30-8 p.m.

Carmel Middle

Curriculum Night: The event will be held Sept. 3.

Community House Middle

Curriculum Night: Two events will be held: The Sept. 16 event will highlight sixth grade and the Sept. 17 event will highlight grades 7-8.

Randolph Middle

Curriculum Night: Two events will be held: The Sept. 9 event will highlight sixth grade and the Sept. 10 event will highlight grades 7-8.
