Meeting scheduled

The next Ballantyne Book Club meeting will be 5:30 p.m. March 30 at Aloft Charlotte Ballantyne. This month’s selection is “The Book of Strange New Things” by Michael Faber.

National Walking Day

Join the American Heart Association and Sara’s YMCA in Ballantyne Corporate Park on National Walking Day at noon April 6 at the Brixham Tent.

After a fun warm up, participants will take a brisk, 30-minute walk through the park. YMCA staff will be on-site after the walk to share fitness tips and answer personal training questions. Admission is free, and the walk is open to everyone.

Ballantyne Corporate Park also has a “Walking Wednesdays” group that meets at 12:15 p.m. each Wednesday in the Sara’s YMCA lobby through June. Details: www.ymcacharlotte.org/branches/saras.

Register for run

The 12th annual Run! Ballantyne 5K/8K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run will be May 14 at Sara’s YMCA in Ballantyne Corporate Park.

Cost is $30 for the 8K and $25 for the 5K through April 30, $35 for the 8K and $30 for the 5K May 1-12, and $40 for the 8K and $35 for the 5K on race day.

Cost of the Fun Run is $10 through May 12 and $15 on race day. Team registration deadline is April 30. Details: www.ymcacharlotte.org.

Art reception

Food Truck Friday

Food Truck Friday will be 5-9 p.m. April 1 at Stumptown Park in Matthews.

Twelve food and dessert trucks will provide varied menus including seafood, Tex-Mex, sandwiches, specialty dishes, international cuisine and Southern food. There also will be entertainment.

Participants can bring chairs and blankets. Pets and alcohol are not permitted. Food Truck Friday is held each Friday night through Sept. 30.

Date Night Drop-Off

Kids ages 6-12 are invited to attend Date Night Drop-Off 5-9 p.m. April 8 at Crews Recreation Center, 1201 Crews Road.

Sponsored by the Matthews Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resource Department, Date Night Drop-Off is held the second Friday of every month at Crews Recreation Center. Kids enjoy sports, crafts, social games, activities and dinner.

Summer camp registration

The town of Matthews Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resource is now accepting registration for summer camp.

Sign up for BeachFest

The “BeachFest Matthews” street festival will be May 13-14 with live beach music, street food vendors, shagging on the main stage dance floor, a car show, a carnival, and activities for kids including an inflatable village and beach-themed crafts.

Exhibitors and participants are needed for display spaces and arts and crafts. Car enthusiasts can register for the Cruisin’ Car Show for $5 per vehicle in advance, $10 on the day of the event.

Vendor fair

Companies interested in pursuing business opportunities with Union County, local municipalities and schools are invited to attend the “Connecting Business in Union County” vendor fair 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. April 6 at South Piedmont Community College.

The fair allows business representatives to meet with procurement agents from Union County, the City of Monroe, Union County Public Schools, South Piedmont Community College, the town of Indian Trail, town of Stallings, town of Wingate and town of Waxhaw.

Procurement agents will share information about upcoming bid opportunities, discuss how the Invitation for Bid or Request for Proposal processes work, how to navigate government websites and how buying surplus can save money.
