Firenze features new dishes for dinner

Among the new dinner menu items at Firenze, 6414 Rea Road, are roasted portabellas with goat cheese; prosciutto with melon; rigatoni with Italian sausage; housemade gnocchi with tomato sauce and fresh ricotta; chicken with wild mushrooms and cream; pork tenderloin with sweet and sour glaze; and more.

Several southern Mecklenburg eateries are participating in “The Queen's Feast – Charlotte Restaurant Week,” this week, through Friday.

Each is offering a special three-course, fixed price dinner menu for $30 per person. Reservations are suggested for each location.

SkinnyZ will host “AlohaPalooza,” a benefit for NASCAR's Stocks for Tots and Cultural Kaleidoscope , 3 p.m. until midnight Saturday.

The event features live tropical and classic rock music. They'll also have shag and limbo contests.

Bring a lawn or beach chair – SkinnyZ has a patio with a sandy picnic area where the bands will play.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Hawthorne's New York Pizza and Bar is going smoke-free.

When the restaurant opens its newest location at Mint Hill Village later this month, a no-smoking policy will go into effect at all four restaurants, said co-owner Michael Adams.

Hawthorne's also will move its corporate and catering offices to the new building at 7319 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Adams said. A grand opening celebration for the restaurant, one of two expected anchor eateries in the new Mint Hill Village, is planned for the end of July.

The restaurant will have a general dining area with a room for private parties, a take-out station and full bar.

Township Grille is looking for nonprofit groups to participate in its Monday night fundraisers. Groups can earn up to 25 percent of their designated nights' food sales. Church groups, athletic teams and other nonprofits are eligible.

On July 21, proceeds will benefit USERL, a rescue group that helps abandoned and mistreated horses. Volunteers will serve as greeters and wait staff and will bus tables from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

They will also have a raffle for two passes to the new Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
