Jasper County Council has delayed final action on an ordinance to make sagging pants illegal.
The Beaufort Gazette reported last week that the delay came after a meeting among mayors, police, Jasper County Sheriff Gregory Jenkins and the council.
Questions were raised about the legality and how it would applied.
Hardeeville Assistant Police Chief Steven Murphy likes the idea, but is unsure how it would be enforced. He says police are concerned about what might be concealed beneath baggy clothing.

The ordinance would make it a misdemeanor to appear in public with pants more than three inches below the hips.
The maximum penalty would be 30 days in jail or a $500 fine.
The measure had been approved 3-2 on two previous votes. Chairman George Hood asked the county attorney to write a version everyone could support.
