Pedestrians will have an easier time crossing the street at Sam Newell Road and Matthews Township Parkway now that a new crosswalk has been installed.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation has installed pedestrian crossing signals and crosswalks at the intersection.
The area is heavily traveled by motorists and pedestrians trying to reach businesses and schools in the area.
"Motorists should be attentive to students and others who will be using the crosswalks at this intersection, and at all crosswalks in town. The law requires all motorists to stop whenever anyone steps into a crosswalk," commented Matthews Police Chief Rob Hunter.
