Winthrop University will mark the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
A short ceremony will be held at the Tillman Loop flagpole shortly after 8:30 a.m. Thursday. At 8:46 a.m. – the time at which the World Trade Center was first attacked – Winthrop trumpet performance major Marshall Woody will play taps at the flag pole. Winthrop students and community members will place 2,000 mini-American flags in front of Byrnes Auditorium in honor of the victims who died in the attacks.

The Rev. David Brown of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church will speak at 9:11 a.m. There will be a second service at 9:11 p.m. at which a student who lost family and friends in the New York attacks will speak. For more information, contact Winthrop's Office of University Relations at 803-323-2236.
