Entertainment palette: From pastels to blues

Works by three local, female artists are on exhibit at the Perimeter Gallery of the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St., Rock Hill.

See paintings by pastel artists Marcia Kort Buike, Virginia L. Dauth and W. Tobi Bordihn through Sept. 28.

In the Rock Hill City Hall Rotunda Gallery, an exhibit of works by brothers Ray and John Clemmer are on display this month. The Clemmers manipulate photographs to create their personal style of artwork. To visit the Rotunda Gallery, enter below the dome from either the Black Street or Johnson Street sides of City Hall, then head upstairs to the gallery.

Rock 'n' roll

Rock 'n' roll in downtown Rock Hill at a free Arts Council of York County event, 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Gettys Center Loading Dock, 201 E. Main St.

Young Tom Fury and Fernandina perform. Young Tom Fury provides danceable, high-energy entertainment. Fernandina has an indie/alt/folk style.

The event is a kick-off for the Arts Council's Art After Hours, a membership group for ages 21-40. But they promise not to check IDs, so feel free to join. Membership is $35 per person; $50 per couple and includes invitations to special events and artist talks.

Blues festival

The fourth annual Downtown Blues Festival is Oct. 2-4. Blues artists from around the country will perform at indoor and outdoor venues.

The festival begins with live music by Jake Haldenwang & the Highway 61 Blues Band, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Center for the Arts. The Jennifer Kincaid, Allison Luce and Alyssa Wood Clay Exhibition will be on display.

The opening event is free. For remaining events, a one-day pass is $12; a two-day pass $20; and a three-day pass $30.

Oct. 2 Matt Walsh performs at 7 p.m. and Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen at 8:30 p.m. at the Old Town Amphitheatre. From 7-11 p.m. Oct. 3, Scott Bristow performs at Cookie Café, while Ironing Board Sam plays at Old Town Bistro, Willie “The Bluesman” Roach at McHale's and Robin Rogers at Thi's Place on Main.

The event closes Oct. 4 with a grand finale at the Old Town Amphitheatre. From 4-11 p.m., see performances by Biscuit Miller and the Mix, Gene Gene and the Blues Machine and the Plair Allstars.
