Vesuvio Restaurant picks its new executive chef

Vesuvio Restaurant has named Jeff Tatu as its new executive chef.

Tatu is a Charlotte native and says he previously worked at Tower Club, Mangione's, Nectar and Cafe 521.

He's just debuted a fall menu. It features “Grown-Up Spaghetti and Meatballs,” linguini with Littleneck clams, cast iron skillet garlic shrimp, baked Fontina “fondue,” housemade cheese sticks with prosciutto and pesto and an “Old School” white pizza with fresh herbs.

Fall festival at the Fountains

The Shoppes at The Fountains hosts a fall festival fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project on Saturday, 3-8 p.m.

There will be music, bounce houses for kids, face painting, a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle and other entertainment.

‘Vintage 59' wine tasting

Global Restaurant hosts a “Vintage 59” wine tasting Wednesday, 6:30-7:30 p.m. with consultant Debra Lewis.

Taste four wines are paired with hors d'oeuvres for $18 per person.

Adventure Menu

Gallery Restaurant is offering an Adventure Menu for diners who enjoy surprises.

The chef's daily selections feature seasonal ingredients in a customized, five- or seven-course meal. Pricing is $79 for five courses and $85 for seven courses (does not include tax and gratuity, nor wine). It's available daily, by reservation.

‘Confection Election'

Jimmie's Sweets is giving away a large pound cake during its “Confection Election” promotion Thursday through Saturday.

Customers can vote on their favorite pound cake during tastings those days. A winner will be drawn from entries .
