Ballantyne

South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church hosts its annual community fall festival Saturday. The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features games, food, live music, entertainment and inflatables. The church is at 8601 Bryant Farms Road.

Matthews

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., the Matthews Historical Foundation will hold its meeting at Matthews Woman's Club, 208 S. Trade St. Genealogical expert Rosemary Lands will present “Researching Your Genealogy.” Free. Details: www.matthewshistoricalfoundation.org or 704-849-7368. Mint Hill

Mint Hill Arts is offering studio space rentals within the gallery. Studios are 8 by 10 feet and rent for $125 a month with a 12 month lease. Twenty-four-hour access will be granted. Mint Hill Arts is at 7714 Matthews-Mint Hill Road. Details: www.minthillarts.org.

Pineville

The Pineville Art Guild will explore fiber arts at its meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at The Yarn Shop by Rainy Day Creations. Fiber artisans will share their love of color and texture. The shop is at 315 Main St., Suite 1. Information: 704-889-1308.

South Charlotte area

The N.C. Cooperative Extension Service invites the public to a presentation on lawn, tree and shrub care Oct. 8 at William R. Davie Community Center, 4635 Pineville-Matthews Road. Steele Creek
