Thirty neighbors gathered on Monday at Koala Park in Tega Cay to start a Neighborhood Watch group. They want to take preventive measures to safeguard their families, homes and neighborhood.
Detective Buddy Spence of the Tega Cay Police Department is organizing Neighborhood Watch groups throughout the city.
The group in the Koala Park neighborhood is the second to organize in the city. Spence invites residents from all neighborhoods to attend a community meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall where he'll share safety tips and ideas on how to organize your neighborhood. I hope to see you there.
Fire Prevention Week
Fire Prevention Week in Tega Cay is today through Saturday. Everyone is invited to the Tega Cay Fire Department at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for an evening of fire prevention and safety information. There will be refreshments, too.
Firefighter Diane Woods and puppets Fireman Bob and Chief Sparky will entertain the children and teach them about fire safety. Children and adults will get to see the department's trucks and equipment.
Have you noticed the $1 coins in the area?
Many local banks and merchants are using them. This area is one of four in the country that is a test market for the U.S. Mint. Look around and you'll see the coins, as well as TV ads, billboards and posters about them.
Carolina First Bank, Professional Insurance Consulting, Bac In Tyme and many businesses around the lake and Fort Mill are using the coins to show that they're not just for collecting. Each year, four coins are released in the order of the service of our U.S. presidents. On Nov. 13, the coin honoring Martin Van Buren will be released in this area.
The 10th Annual Pilgrims' Inn Irish Open will be Nov. 9 and there's still room for more golfers.
The four-man Captain's Choice format tournament has a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. From 10 a.m. until noon there will be range balls and Bloody Marys at The Range behind McHale's Irish Pub, 1820 Gold Hill Road in Fort Mill. Register to play and get a box lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. at the Tega Cay Golf Club. After the tournament ends, there will dinner and prizes at McHale's. Sign up now to reserve your spot.
McHale's not only sponsors this benefit tournament, but also donates a percentage of its profits to Pilgrims' Inn each year. The proceeds help homeless and disadvantaged women and children in York County.
