S.C. Election Commission officials say a record number of absentee voting requests has prompted them to ask the 46 county election boards to open their offices on Saturday.

"We don't have the authority to make them extend their hours but we have made the requests and about eight of the more urban counties will open on Saturday," said Commission spokesman Chris Whitmire.

The York County Registration and Elections office in York will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Voters who are already registered can come to the elections office at 13 S. Congress St. and request an absentee application to vote early. For more information, call the elections office at 803-684-1242.
