Matthews

Financing for teens: The Matthews Branch, 230 Matthews Station St., of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is hosting "Teens and Money: Financial Literacy 101" 5:30-6:30 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Community Room. Weddington Road

Parent technology workshop: The Siskey YMCA, 3127 Weddington Road, is hosting a workshop, 7-8:30 p.m. Jan. 12, for parents who want to stay on top of technology and how it relates to their teens. Parents will learn common texting shorthand, instruction for navigating Facebook's security functions and helpful advice for talking to teens about phone bills. Free; registration required. South Charlotte

Donations needed: Goodwill needs donations to fund its local job training and employment programs, which helped more than 15,000 people in their job searches last year. Goodwill accepts new and gently used clothing, household items, toys, computers and more. One working computer gives a person 5.3 hours of career counseling. One bike, one coat and one DVD give a person one hour of on-the-job training. Six shirts and two pairs of jeans give a person an hour-long job-search class.
