Sports brief: Country Day's Roberts commits to Clemson

Charlotte Country Day School quarterback Morgan Roberts committed to play football at Clemson last week.

Roberts chose the Tigers over offers from Ball State, Marshall, Old Dominion, Elon, Dartmouth and Harvard.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound senior led the Buccaneers to a N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association championship this year, Country Day's first since 2004.

Roberts passed for 1,968 yards and 22 touchdowns and rushed for 706 yards and 14 touchdowns in his senior season.

He was named to the 2009 and 2010 NCISAA All-State teams.

Roberts also was the quarterback for the North Carolina team in the 2010 Oasis Shrine Bowl and was named the game's MVP.
