Dennis Green, 57, has been named Matthews Fire and EMS Chief. Green has worked for the town for the past 20 years, starting as Chief of the EMS Department when it was formed in 1991.
He has served as deputy chief of the town's fire and EMS Department since 2008 and interim fire chief for the last three months.
In 2008, Green was instrumental in merging the EMS and fire departments and helping the new department transition from a mostly volunteer organization.
Green is a certified Firefighter II, Emergency Medical Technician and Emergency Rescue Technician. He was a certified paramedic for 12 years and served as shift supervisor for Union County Emergency Medical Services. Over the years, he also has served as an instructor for numerous emergency management classes at Anson Stanly Technical College.

He serves on the EMS Education and Standards Committee for the International Association of Fire Chiefs, EMS Section. He also has served on the Conference Education Committee for the Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs, a division of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
