Re-elected: Dr. Jerry E. McGee, president of Wingate University, has been re-elected to serve as Chair of the Presidents of North Carolina's Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) until 2013. Upon the conclusion of this term, he will have served an unprecedented five consecutive years in this capacity. McGee has served as president of Wingate University since 1992. While at Wingate University, he has increased enrollment by 145 percent, founded a School of Pharmacy and Levine College of Health Sciences and added more than 20 new buildings on the main campus.
Guest speaker: Award-winning sports commentator Jim Nantz will appear 5:30-7 p.m. May 6 at Charlotte's Providence United Methodist Church. Nantz has been a television fixture at Super Bowls, the Masters, the Final Four, and other sporting events on CBS Sports. The event is free and open to the public. Sidewalks: The town of Indian Trail will install sidewalks along Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road from Colton Ridge Drive to Coventry Drive. The new sidewalk will be about two-thirds mile long. One sidewalk will stretch from Colton Ridge Drive to Old Monroe Road, and a second section with curb and gutter will connect Coventry Drive to the Food Lion Shopping Center at the corner of Old Monroe Road and Indian Trail Road. The town awarded the project to W.M. Warr & Son, a local contractor. The town also is working on sidewalk projects along Rogers Road, Unionville-Indian Trail Road and Sardis-Church Road.
