Open House: Anami Montessori will host an open house at 9:30 a.m. on May 3. Parents will be able to view children at work in the classroom and speak with teachers about the benefits of a Montessori education.
Chemistry Club: Charlotte Christian's Chemistry Club named C4, has been awarded a $5,000 grant from The Dow Chemical Company for their essay and video. It was part of the Chemical Heritage Foundation's "It's Elemental" contest. The team of juniors and seniors put together a video and essay on the properties of iodine and were chosen for the honors from approximately 700 videos submitted in the national competition.
Middle Ages: Sixth-graders celebrated their annual Middle Ages Day on April 15 with games, fanfare, science, history and a medieval feast.
The annual event has been part of the sixth-grade history curriculum for more than 10 years.
Summer school: The Spanish Summer Immersion course will run from June 20 to July 22.
Students will spend four weeks listening, speaking, reading and writing exclusively in Spanish. Students also will experience the 20 countries of the Spanish-speaking world through food, music, films, visits from native speakers and visits with the Spanish-speaking community in Charlotte. Fundraiser: Students raised $1,250 to support the American Childhood Cancer Organization by participating in a PJammin' Day on April 6.
The students, faculty and staff wore their pajamas to school for a minimum donation of $1.00 per participant. Details: www.pjammin.org.
Spring Fling: The Primrose School in Cornelius will host a Spring Fling fundraiser on April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to "Cookies for Kids," a charity for pediatric cancer research. A portion of the proceeds also will go to a charity called "Reach Out and Read." The event will feature face painting, games, a silent auction, jump house, cake walk, food, music and more.
