Park Road

Computer safety class: Shepherd's Center of Charlotte is leading a three-day computer safety course 9 a.m.-noon May 2, 4 and 6 at the Southminster Retirement Community, 8919 Park Road. Volunteers needed: Jacob's Ladder Job Center, a Charlotte nonprofit that specializes in breaking the cycle of chronic unemployment through job readiness, needs volunteers. Rea Road

Gardening seminar: Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Management's composting division will hold a seminar on how to maintain a vegetable garden 6:30-7:30 p.m. May 5 in the community room of the South County Regional Library, 5801 Rea Road. Blood drive: The town will hold a blood drive 9 a.m.-1 p.m. May 3 at The Hut, 413 Johnston Drive. Anyone 17 or older and weighing at least 120 pounds can donate. No appointment necessary. Details: 704-889-2291.


Fundraising event: Extreme Makeover for the Woman's Soul, a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of professional women, will hold a fundraiser 10 a.m. April 29-30 at the Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge, 10000 Ballantyne Commons Parkway. The "Stiletto Challenge" will feature spa services, makeovers, shopping, a nutrition expert and cooking demonstration, silent auction, a Zumba fitness demonstration and the Stiletto Challenge, where women model their highest high heels.
