Photo contest: Charlotte's Thunder Road Marathon will kick off it's inaugural "Race Face" photo contest on Monday, May 16.

Running enthusiasts can submit photos that capture their best "Race Face."

Photos must be submitted by June 19.

Submit photos by posting them to Charlotte's Thunder Road Marathon Facebook page or send your photo in JPEG format to Ashleigh@runforyourlife.com. For more information, visit www.runcharlotte.com/race-face-contest.htm.

Matthews and Stallings have are collaborating to develop a Plan that will address transportation issues. This Plan, known as the Matthews-Stallings Comprehensive Transportation Plan, will be guided by local input from citizens.

Area residents are encouraged to get involved and provide leaders with input. A survey is available online at www.matthewsnc.com and www.stallingsnc.org.

A drop-in public meeting regarding the Plan is scheduled from 4-7 p.m., May 17, 2011 at Central Piedmont Community College, 2800 Campus Ridge Road in Matthews. The meeting will be in Room 2215, Building #1.

A draft plan is tentatively scheduled to be released in November. Updates regarding the Plan will be available at www.matthewsnc.com and www.stallingsnc.org.

Farmers Market: Next Saturday, May 14, the town of Matthews will be filled with music, history, strawberries and fun thanks to the Matthews Historical Foundation and several events happening around town. The day begins at 7:15 a.m. with Strawberry Day at the Matthews Farmer's Market featuring a Strawberry Taste Test and a Strawberry Dessert Baking contest.
