Proposed budget: Matthews Commissioners received the proposed fiscal year 2011-12 budget from Town Manager Hazen Blodgett during their meeting last week.
The budget focuses on maintaining current services for citizens during the continued economic recession.
The proposed budget would be $18,517,074. There are no proposed tax or fee increases in the budget. This budget reflects a revenue neutral rate due to the county's property revaluation. This is the first time in eight years that revaluation has been completed.
Revenue neutral is the tax rate that will bring in the same amount of tax revenue as the current tax rate and is increased to reflect growth in the tax base between reappraisals. The current tax rate is .33 cents per hundred dollars of valuation. The revenue neutral rate would be 30 cents.
