Sports briefs: Rivals girls win AAU hoops title; Robinson claims soccer crown

Rivals win AAU title

The Charlotte Rivals 13U girls' basketball team won the Division 1 N.C. AAU state championship May 15. The team won all four games by double digits.

In the first game, the Rivals gave up only three points to the Greensboro Galaxy, then beat the NC Spartans 69-56 and the Lady Diamonds 69-42.

In the championship game, the Rivals beat Phoenix Bond 69-38.

The Rivals were led by Darah Dewalt, who will be a freshman at Ardrey Kell next year, with 23 points; Kelsi Mahoney, with 18 points and 11 rebounds; and Stephanie Watts with 17 points.

The Rivals will travel to Lexington, Ky., in July for the Run for the Roses Showcase, then to Nashville, Tenn., for the Battle of the Boro Showcase, and finish in Augusta, Ga., with the Garden City Roundball Classic.

Robinson wins conference title

The Jay M. Robinson Middle School girls' soccer team is this year's Southern Conference Champions. The Chargers went 12-1 on the season, losing only their season opener.
