Briefly: Cuthbertson, Charlotte Catholic win state championships

Two high school teams in Charlotte's southern suburbs brought home girls' state championships in soccer this year. Union County's Cuthbertson High beat Carrboro 2-1 after penalty kicks to win the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A championship on May 27 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Leah Drawdy scored the regulation goal for Cuthbertson and the Cavaliers won the penalty kick shootout 5-4. Charlotte Catholic beat Cardinal Gibbons 2-1 on May 28 in Cary to win the NCHSAA 3A girls' soccer title. Jane Cline scored both goals for the Cougars.
