Tech camp for girls: Rising 10th- to 12th-grade girls are invited to participate in Microsoft DigiGirlz High-Tech Camp, a four-day summer workshop to introduce them to career fields touched by technology. The camp is 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. July 18-21 at the Microsoft Charlotte Campus, 8055 Microsoft Way. Cost is free. Only first-time campers are accepted. Windyrush Road

Firecracker 5K: The first Charlotte Firecracker 5K starts at 7 p.m. July 3 on Windyrush Road, near Olde Providence Elementary School, and ends at the Windyrush Country Club pool. After the race, there will be a pool party with food, music and drinks. Cost is $20 through June 26, $25 from June 17 to July 2 and $30 on race day.
