Quail Hollow

New principal: Rachael J. Neill has been named principal at Quail Hollow Middle School.

A graduate of Davidson College and a Teach For America corps member, she joined Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as a teacher of exceptional children in 2005. Neill has also served as program director for Teach For America in Charlotte and spent the 2010-11 school year as a resident principal at James Martin Middle School.

Shalom Park

Freedom School: Last week's South Charlotte News featured the new Shalom Park Freedom School for select students at Huntingtowne Farms and Sterling elementary schools. Matthews

Calling all sculptors: The town of Matthews is accepting applications for its new public art project. The project will rotate sculptures by local and regional artists every six months, throughout downtown locations. Art should be able to withstand the elements, rest on pedestals and be "touchable" by the public. The art can be for sale, and if it's sold, the town will receive 10 percent of the purchase price. Old Providence Road

Art exhibition: The Carriage Club of Charlotte is having an art exhibition of local artists' work 4-6 p.m. July 13 in the auditorium, 5800 Old Providence Road. There will be a string quartet playing and a wine and cheese tasting. RSVP to Mary Pat Buskard, 704-366-4960.
