Developer FMW Real Estate is continuing with its revitalization work in the area along South Kings Drive, with nearly 8,700 square feet of retail under construction at Kings Drive and Charlottetowne Avenue.
Chipotle Mexican Grill will have nearly 2,200 square feet for a restaurant in the first phase of construction on a property that stretches along a city block.
The Vitamin Shoppe and Mattress Firm also will become tenants at the site at 233 S. Kings Drive, which has been vacant for years.
Those stores are expected to open in by the beginning of next year.
Plans call for two buildings divided by a courtyard, said Jim Zanoni, a principle at FMW Real Estate.
FMW and land owner Walker Wells also developed an Original Pancake House, a Bojangles' restaurant, a Petro Express gas station and a state-run liquor store in the same area, Zanoni said.
This latest projects sits opposite a Target store. The mixed-use Metropolitan development is the anchor for the up-and-coming intersection. Retail tenants at Metropolitan include Best Buy, Marshalls, Trader Joe's and several restaurants.
Many of the offices and residences at Metropolitan overlook a recently completed stretch of Little Sugar Creek Greenway, located between Charlottetowne Avenue and Morehead Street.
