Restaurant news: Eat at Jason's Deli to support local charity

Jason's Deli

The eighth annual Big Red Shoe Run will take place Sept. 10 in Myers Park, hosted by the Cornwell Center and benefitting Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.

The 5K race kicks off at 8 a.m. and is followed by a 1K fun run for kids and a community festival on the lawn of the Cornwell Center. Prizes for runners: golf lessons at Ballantyne Resort, dinner at Del Frisco's and more. Details: www.bigredshoe5k@eventbrite.com.

Jason's Deli at Park and Woodlawn roads will host a registration night for the Big Red Shoe Run from 4-10 p.m. Aug. 18. Stop in to Jason's on Aug. 18 and learn about Ronald McDonald House, Cornwell Center and register for the race.

A Flora Springs Wine Dinner will be hosted by Danny Sanford of Fine Wine Trading Co. at Ruth's uptown location at 7 p.m. Aug. 19. A three-course menu will be served; highlights include a watermelon, crab and arugula summer-salad cocktail with goat cheese, creamy risotto with wild mushroom ragu and a bleu cheese crusted prime filet mignon with roasted garlic mashed potatoes. Get up close with Zink's kitchen staff when you reserve a spot for the "Feed Me Chef" dinners. Guests can sit at the "kitchen counter" and watch chefs prepare a five-course meal just for them. Cost is $55 per person; add $25 per person for paired wines.

Meatless Mondays are new at Zink. Chef Tommy will create a three-course vegetarian menu featuring local market-fresh ingredients. Cost is $20 per person, or order a la carte.

Zink's Cooking School will feature a culinary trip through America's playground Aug. 27: Vegas, Vegas, Vegas. Cost is $35 per person; reservations suggested.

Join Zink's E-Club for a brunch deal in August and print a $5-off Sunday brunch coupon. Brunch selections include French toast, shrimp and grits and eggs Benedict with blue crab hollandaise. A kids' brunch menu is available.
