CBCC Donation

Microsoft supports CBCC: The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas recently announced that Microsoft is making a $267,437 software donation to CBCC.

Wesley Mancini Foundation

Grant requirement change: The Wesley Mancini Foundation has changed its grant application requirements.

The foundation will now pick an annual theme to be addressed. The 2011 grant applications must develop a project that will raise the profile of the LGBT community in front of a national audience during the Democratic National Convention and partner with at least one non-LGBT organization to accomplish the grant's goals.

Discovery Place

UNICEF donations: On Aug. 19, Discovery Place donated $2 from every ticket sale for the IMAX movie "Rescue: Disaster Response" to UNICEF.

The documentary shows scenes from the earthquake in Haiti last year. Details: Visit www.discoveryplace.org/imax.

Operation Homefront

Freedom Run: Operation Homefront of North Carolina will hold the second annual Freedom 5K Run/Walk at Freedom Park on Sept. 3 to raise money for struggling military families.

Isabella Santos Foundation

5K for Kids Cancer: The fourth annual Isabella Santos Foundation 5K for Kids Cancer will be held 8 a.m. Sept. 24 in the Ballantyne Corporate Park, 13860 Ballantyne Corporate Place.

The 5K is for walkers and runners and will include a fun run for kids. All proceeds benefit the Isabella Santos Foundation, which helps fund neuroblastoma research and supports charities like the Ronald McDonald House, the Make-a-Wish Foundation and others.
